CURRENT:  The Every 28 Hours Plays

Every 28 Hours
In 2012 a study found that every 28 hours a black person was extrajudicially killed by vigilante, security guard, or the police in the United States. This statistic was immediately contested and the country is still embroiled with addressing a problem it struggles to acknowledge. Inspired by the conversation we needed to have this project was envisioned. Currently produced by Claudia Alick with CALLING UP, The Every 28 Hours Plays project was originally developed with The Oregon Shakespeare Festival and The One-Minute Play Festival with over one-hundred artistic collaborators across the country. Collaborators include Tony award-winning artists, activists, family members directly affected by police violence, politicians, cultural organizers, and law enforcement. The project consists of over seventy short plays that reflect the current civil rights movement, and tools to help your community address these issues, grow empathy, and become healthier.

PAST:  Green Show

2008 – 2017
In 2008 Claudia Alick redesigned the this outdoor performance season to be radically inclusive, accessible and full of diversity. The 50-70 acts per year in a series of 117-109 shows included international, national and local artists. These acts had cultural resonance with the community, the plays in the season, and the artists and audience OSF collaborated with. Audiences doubled and then tripled in size.

Claudia Alick expanded this event to include several cities and live streaming.  It included a variety show for a live audience of around 800, a 3 camera shoot and live stream to a movie theater (for overflow crowd ), a march to the plaza led by a community group, where we are greeted by a choir and listen to the Sermon from the Mountaintop in it’s entirety. The show is shown on local television throughout the year.

PAST: Juneteenth

2008-2018
This began as an internal intimate event that raised a small amount of money for a scholarship for African-American children.  In a decade the event was grown to include African-Americans throughout Southern Oregon and became a large community outcry for racial justice as well as a joyful and replenishing annual event. Created in collaboration with the Southern Oregon community, and produced with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival the program was directed by different talented OSF company members. In this video you will see the beauty and importance of the event.  In 2016 a week before the director of the show was attacked with racial hate. We moved quickly to respond with our program.
