DIRECTING

Values

I direct wildly entertaining, deeply engaging work, in live and digital environments.  My process honors community, involves virtuosity and authenticity, and centers justice making,  I put together diverse teams and help them create a larger vision with the best parts of their talent, passion, and competency.   There's an explicit and aggressive inclusion and access built into my culture.  We work hard and play hard. In my rooms there's a lot of laughter and a lot of learning and often food.  I  value my collaborators time.   That means there is rigor with a tight schedule as well as flexibility to allow people to participate on multiple levels.

RECENT TESTIMONIAL
"I worked with Claudia recently at the Ashland New Play Festival, where she directed the staged reading of my play, A Dark Sky Full of Stars. We spoke together on the phone several times before the conference and worked closely during the week, which included two readings and multiple rehearsals...I found her to be impeccably prepared and thoughtful in her approach. She handled difficult subject matter with style and grace and I always felt like I was in extremely good hands.  The way in which she created an atmosphere of safe and thoughtful collaboration with the actors was particularly impressive. More than one of our cast remarked that this was the “best environment they had worked in.” I have to agree with that assessment. Claudia gave the actors the freedom and space to create their own characters and responded immediately to any concerns I had. She was exactly what you want in a collaborator: someone whose goal is to execute the vision of the playwright but who also brings her own artistry to bear."
